Toros Cruise to 51-37 Win Over SFSU on Senior Day

CARSON -- Already having clinched a first-round bye and establishing the program record for wins last night, Cal State Dominguez Hills had one goal heading into tonight's contest hosting San Francisco State which was to send their five seniors out with a win.  And send them out they did behind Breanne Garcia's 21 points and Talia Rayford's 13 boards.

Senior Tayler Champion also set the single-season record for 3-pointers made with her second make, breaking the record previously held by sharp-shooting Jessica Liang in 2007-08.

With the win, CSUDH also established the least points allowed this year while moving to 24-6 overall, and 19-3 in the CCAA, the highest number of league wins in the history of the program.

"I was really happy with how this team has battled all season, and to win the regular season championship is special because it requires such a consistent and persistent effort, and it is such a significant accomplishment," begins CSUDH head coach Molly Goodenbour after leading the Toros to their first back-to-back CCAA titles since the 1994-95 and 1995-96 squads finished first under legendary head coach Van Girard.

"We also are excited about the tournament," she continues.  "March is about tournaments and we are looking forward to getting started."

The Toros started cold, shooting just .276 from the floor with an 8-of-11 effort from the line keeping them ahead of the Gators en route to a 29-23 halftime lead.

SFSU scored the second half's first six points to catch the Toros at the 15:59 mark, until a 15-2 run over the next six minutes pushed the Toros in front for good, with a free throw by Anandi Jimenez pushing CSUDH up 44-31 en route to the 51-37 final.

Champion added 10 points in the win while Talia Rayford with 13 and Kielyn Wilson with 10 rebounds aided in CSUDH's +14 in the rebound department, with Wilson notching consecutive blocks to excite the near capacity Torodome crowd.

Prior to the game, CSUDH honored its five seniors in the final regular season game in the Torodome in Rayford, Champion, Ashanti Sweezer, Kerah Natividad and Shomari McCorkle.
