Ruiz's Walk-Off Puts Exclamation Point on Sweep Over CS Stanislaus on "Think Pink" Day

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills sent 13 batters to the plate in the 5th inning en route to an 8-run frame with Madison Murphy earning two doubles as the Toros took a 9-5 win in game one of today's twinbill over visiting CS Stanislaus on "Think Pink" day, before Jasmine Ruiz belted a 2-run walk-off blast in the bottom of the 8th inning to give CSUDH a 5-3 win, and a sweep over the Warriors.

The Toros improve to 6-9, 4-4 CCAA with their third-consecutive win.

Here's Ruiz's game-winner:

The Warriors were sitting pretty in the opener after taking a 3-1 lead into the 5th.  That's when the proverbial flood gates opened for the Cardinal and Gold as CSUDH exploded for their runs, with the big blows coming on a Jasmine Ruiz 2RBI single and Murphy's 2RBI double, the second extra-base knock of the frame.

A solo home run in the 6th brought CSUS closer, but Toro starter Jamie Duran closed strong, retiring the side in order in the 7th including the final two by way of the whiff.

Murphy, Carly Mitchell and Jazmyne Cortinas all connected for two hits, with Murphy and Ruiz knocking home a pair of runs in the win.

In the nightcap, the Warriors jumped to a 2-0 lead in the 1st, and held the Toros scoreless until the 6th when CSUDH plated three, using a Warrior error to take a one-run lead.

That quickly disappeared as an RBI single by the Warriors tied the game in the 7th, sending the game to extras.

In the 8th, a Stephanie Hua walk on four pitches set up Ruiz to lay down a sacrifice bunt.  But unable to do so, Ruiz launched her shot deep over the left field fence to set off a raucous celebration.

Alyssa Valinches notched the win after tossing 8.0 innings of work, allowing three earned runs.  Mootry and Ruiz notched two hits each in the win as part of seven total, with Cortinas driving in one run in the process.

Prior to the contest, Kara Balagey's mother threw out the honorary first pitch as a survivor of breast cancer.
