Offensive Affair Goes Toros Way in 15-7 Decision Over CS Stanislaus

CARSON -- Senior Danny Matienzo roped his first four hits of the year as part of a 14-hit attack to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills in a 15-7 win over Cal State Stanislaus in the third of four games this weekend as the two teams combined for 25 hits, eight errors and nine hit batters.

The Toros improve to 8-7, 3-4 CCAA with the victory.

The Warriors started strong, tagging Toro starter Kevin Brown with a pair of runs in the 1st and then two more in the 3rd for a 4-1 lead.

The Toros, however, answered in a big way, with four coming in the 3rd to take the lead for good on an RBI groundout, a Kevin Lenik 2-runn blast and Matienzos RBI double to give CSUDH a 5-4 lead.

After the Warriors answered with a solo blast to tie the game, CSUDH again took control with five in the 4th as Kamran Young began the attack with a 2-run home run down the right field line, before Fernando Gallegos was hit with the bases loaded and Matienzo brought home two with a single to left field to make the score 10-5 in favor of the hosts.

CSUS rallied with two in the top of the 5th, only to have the Toros score five more in their at-bat, with Brandon Polizzi, Young and Brady Conlan roping back-to-back-to-back doubles, with an Adrian Guzman 2RBI single to left accounting for the final runs of the game.

Relievers Bryce Shea and TyRay Gatewood combined for 4.0 innings of work, allowing just two hits to close the door on the Warriors.

Each Toro starter earned at least one knock, with Young (2), Juan Avena (2) and Matienzo leading the charge.  Young (3), Lenik (2), Matienzo (3), Spencer Maxey (2) and Guzman (2) also added multi-RBI efforts in the win.

The two teams conclude their four-game set tomorrow morning at 11 am, with the game being streamed live on the Toro Sports Network.
