Toros Rebound in 8-2 Nightcap After Warriors Flex Muscles in 10-2 (5) Opener

CARSON -- Sophomore Jazmyne Cortinas belted a 3-run home run to highlight a 5-run 3rd inning as Cal State Dominguez Hills took an 8-2 nightcap win after visiting Cal State Stanislaus hammered three home runs in game one to take a 10-2 win over the Toros to open today's doubleheader.

CSUDH moves to 4-9 overall, and 2-4 in CCAA play.

The long ball proved crucial today as Madison Murphy and Cortinas both went deep in the nightcap, with Cortinas' blast providing a 5-0 lead.

That proved plenty for freshman Alyssa Valinches in the circle as she scattered eight hits while limiting the Warriors to just a pair of runs.  Carly Mitchell and Analisa Nicholson both earned multi-hit efforts in the win that evened the series at a game apiece.

The opener was all CSUS as the Warriors exploded for nine runs in the 4th to blow the game open, courtesy of a grand slam and 3-run jack.

That offensive explosion chased starter Jamie Duran as CSUS limited CSUDH to just seven hits in the loss.

Murphy and Jasmine Ruiz each went for two hits with Alexandra Mootry and Ruiz driving home the lone runs of the game.

The two teams will conclude their series tomorrow morning at 10 am.
