Toros Earn First CCAA Win of Year in Split at Sonoma State

ROHNERT PARK -- Junior Jamie Duran scattered five hits and allowed just one run while Stephanie Hua and Analisa Nicholson provided the big blows as Cal State Dominguez Hills took a 6-1 decision to open today's twinbill at Sonoma State.

The Seawolves replied with a 5-1 win to even the day's results as the Toros move to 3-8, 1-3 CCAA.

After the hosts staked themselves to a run in the 1st inning to open the day, the Toros took the lead for good in the 3rd as Nicholson pulled a full-count offering over the right field fence, bringing home Madison Murphy, who reached base before her.

That's where the score remained until the 5th when Hua cleared the bases with a booming double to right center, giving the Toros a 5-1 lead.  The edge increased one more run later that inning when Jasmine Ruiz poked a single to left to play Hua with the game's final run.

That was plenty for Duran, who picked up her second win of the year in the complete-game win and was bolstered by an efficient 6-run, 7-hit attack by the Cardinal and Gold.

The Seawolves again scored first in the nightcap, but then added three in the 4th before a Ruiz sacrifice fly put the Toros on the board in the 6th.

But it was too little, too late as SSU added another in the 5-1 win.

Alyssa Valinches took the loss, allowing nine hits and four earned runs while the Toro bats managed just four hits, with their gloves mishandling three chances.

CSUDH opens its homestand on Friday for a doubleheader against CS Stanislaus, with first pitch of game one set for 12 noon on Toro Diamond.
