Brown's Masterpiece Salvages Final Game at No. 10 UC San Diego

LA JOLLA -- Making his first start in two years, senior Kevin Brown threw the game of his life thus far as he stifled 10th-ranked UC San Diego in leading Cal State Domiguez Hills to a 3-1 win in the final game of the four-game set after the Tritons had out-scored the Toros 33-0 over the first three games.

CSUDH picks up its first CCAA win of the year, improving to 6-6, 1-3 CCAA.

After being blanked over the first 27 innings of play, the Toros finally got on the scoreboard in the 1st as Brady Conlan stroked a 1-2 single up the middle, playing Kamran Young for a 1-0 lead.

The Tritons knotted the game in the 4th on a bases-loaded walk to Jack Larsen, only to have the Toros answer with a pair in the 5th as Conlan again did the damage, roping a triple to the right-center field gap to bring home Young and Adrian Guzman.

That proved plenty for Brown, who totaled 119 pitches with 76 going for strikes, fanning nine batters against four walks.

Young and Guzman tallied a pair of hits each in the win, while the Tritons managed just three hits.

The opener was all UCSD as the hosts picked up where they left off in games one and two, scoring 13 runs in the first four innings.

UCSD added three more in the 7th and 8th frames for the lopsided win as the Tritons rattled off 18 hits, including four doubles.

The Toros resume CCAA hosting duties on Friday in game one of a four-game set, hosting CS Stanislaus for a 12 noon first pitch.
