Seawolves Come Back to Take Game One Before Blanking Toros in Nightcap

ROHNERT PARK -- Cal State Dominguez Hills exploded for a four-run 2nd inning to erase an early 2-0 deficit, but host Sonoma State answered with the final three runs that included one in the bottom of the 7th to take game one of today's California Collegiate Athletic Association twinbill, 5-4.

Sophomore Madison Murphy drove home two with a triple to account for half of the Toro total before the Seawolves blanked the Toros 6-0 in the nightcap for the sweep that drops the Toros to 2-7, 0-2 CCAA.

After a 2-run shot put the Seawolves up 2-0, the Toros answered with four in the 2nd, courtesy of an RBI triple by Carly Mitchell, and Priscilla Cardona RBI single up the middle and a 2RBI triple by Madison Murphy to give CSUDH a 4-2 lead.

SSU, however, answered with single runs in the 4th and 5th frames, and then a suicide squeeze in the 7th to bring back the come-from-behind win.

The Toros managed just three hits in the loss, which was saddled on Jamie Duran after allowing nine hits and four earned runs.

The nightcap was all SSU after scoring one in the 1st, two in the 5th and three in the 6th, stringing together 10 hits off Toro starter Alyssa Valinches.

Analisa Nicholson earned a pair of hits in the loss.

The two teams conclude their four-game set tomorrow morning, set for an 11:00 am first pitch.
