No. 10 Tritons Touch Up Toro Pitching in 12-0 Win

CARSON -- Reigning California Collegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week Winston Lavendier and his fellow pitchers were no match for visiting and 10th-ranked UC San Diego in the CCAA opener for the Toros as the Tritons roughed up the Toro pitching staff in a 12-0 runaway.

In one of the few bright spots for the hosts, true freshman Brandon Polizzi (pictured) extended his hitting streak to nine-straight games, knocking a hit in each of the first nine contests of the 2015 season.

The Tritons got on the board with a single run in the 2nd and two in the 3rd off Lavendier, who held UCSD scoreless over the next two frames.

Once the bullpen came in, however, the Triton bats again got hot as an RBI triple in the 6th preceded a solo shot and wild pitch that scored another runner in the 7th to make it 6-0.

UCSD doubled that score after a 4-spot in the 8th and two more for good measure in the 9th as the Toros went through five relievers overall.

The Toros managed just five hits on the day compared to 17 for the visitors, while making three errros.

The two teams continue their four-game set tomorrow afternoon on "Think Pink" day, with first pitch set for 2 pm on Toro Field.
