Toros Pick Up 21st Win in 75-63 Decision Over East Bay

CARSON -- Junior Breanne Garcia poured in a team-high 26 points as Cal State Dominguez Hills used a .524 shooting percentage from the floor and .462 from downtown to coast to a 75-63 win over visiting Cal State East Bay tonight on "Think Pink" night.

With the win, the Toros move to 21-5, 16-2 CCAA, remaining tied with Humboldt State atop the CCAA standings, and moving to within one win from tying the program record for most victories in a single season.

"We put it in gear after a slow start and played with a much greater sense of purpose, and Brewas awesome again tonight, attacking and knocking down shots," begins CSUDH head coach Molly Goodenbour, about the jump start her team needed tonight.

"She is playing with such passion and heart and it's fun to watch her.

"Talia Rayford was in foul trouble but still gave great leadership and defense, and Tayler Champion played really nice defense.  It was a good team win."

The Pioneers took a commanding 11-2 lead to start the game, until the Toros woke up and answered with 9-0 run of their own to knot the game, the last coming on a Rayford layup at 11:26.

CSUDH continued its run, out-scoring CSUEB 24-11 to take a 35-22 lead seven minutes later en route to a comfortable 41-27 lead entering the break.

That's where the lead remained through the first 10 minutes of the second half, until another Toro surge brought the hosts to a 20-point lead at 6:45 via a pair of Kaaron King freebies, a lead that swelled to 22 on a pair of Talia Rayford free throws with under five minutes left in regulation.

CSUEB forged an 11-3 run to close the game, but it was too little, too late as the Toros picked up their eighth-straight win, a season high.

Champion and Rayford each poured in 13 points, with Monay Lee adding 11 in the blowout.

The Toros hit the road for the final time next weekend, beginning with a trip to RIMAC to face UC San Diego on Friday, February 20, with a showdown at Cal Poly Pomona to follow the next night.
