No. 20 Lancers Walk Way to 7-5 Win in Rubber Game

RIVERSIDE -- Twentieth-ranked Cal Baptist managed just five hits in the third and final game of the three-game series, but the Lancers benefited from 11 free passes to take a 7-5 win in today's rubber match over Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Freshman Brandon Polizzi knocked two hits with two runs scored to give him a hit in each of his first eight college games as the Toros fall to 5-3 on the year.

The day started well as the visitors gave starter Fernando Gallegos a 3-0 lead, with Brady Conlan doubling home the first run, followed by an RBI groundout by Juan Avena and a wild pitch that plated Conlan.

The Lancers, however, tied the game and then some, scoring five times on five walks, without benefit of a hit to chase Gallegos after just 2/3rds of an inning.

The Toros plated single runs in the 5th and 6th, with Joshua Flores belting his second long ball in as many days, but the Lancers answered with single runs in two innings as well to hold on to their two-run advantage.

Spencer Maxey and Gallegos also went for two hits en route to the team's 11, with not one Lancers tallying more than a single hit.

CSUDH opens California Collegiate Athletic Association play against perennial power UC San Diego for single games on Thursday and Friday, with first pitch set for 2:00 pm both days.
