Toros Reach 20 Wins After Uneasy 65-51 Decision Over CS Monterey Bay

CARSON -- Junior Breanne Garcia led all scorers with 18 points that included 5-of-6 from the foul line as the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros took a 65-51 win over visiting CS Monterey Bay in a contest that was closer than the final score indicated, thanks to some lackluster play by the Toros to begin the second half.

With tonight's victory, CSUDH clinches a berth in the upcoming CCAA postseason tournament, joining Humboldt State and Cal Poly Pomona.  THis also marks the 5th time the program has reached 20 wins, with the program record 22 wins seemingly well within reach with five games left in the regular season, including three at home.

"We got off to a good start but then got a bit complacent and stopped communicating and attacking and that carried over into the start of the second half," begins CSUDH head coach Molly Goodenbour, about the scare her team threw on itself.

"We regained a spark midway through the second half, and need to be mentall and physically tougher through this last stretch of conference games."

A three–pointer to start the game set the Toros of on a 14–4 run. However, the Otters countered with a small run of their own, getting to within eight points of the Toros and ending the half nine points down.

The Toros continued to go away from what got them to this point in the season as CSUMB tied the game at 34-34 after a 7-1 run.  But CSUDH finally woke up, outscoring the Otters by 14 the rest of the way.

Kaaron King contributed 11 points in the win, with half of her six rebounds coming on the offensive end that contributed to a 14-8 edge for the hosts, including 12-3 in the first half.

The Toros look to continue their win streak, hosting Cal State East Bay tomorrow night on "Think Pink" night, with first tip set for 5:30 pm.
