Toro Bats Silenced in 11-1 and 10-2 (5) Losses to Open Desert Stinger Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nv. -- Sophomore Madison Murphy (pictured) rattled off two of Cal State Dominguez Hills' five hits as the Toros opened the Desert Stinger Classic, but Azusa Pacific belted 13 hits en route to 11 runs in taking an 11-1 win before St. Martin's built up a 10-0 lead en route to a 10-2 win in 5.0 innings, despite Jasmine Ruiz going deep to account for CSUDH's two runs.

Azusa started early in the opner, scoring four runs before CSUDH got on the board on a Jazmyne Cortinas RBI double to plate Murphy.

It was all Cougars after that as APU scored the game's final seven runs in the 11-1 final.

The nightcap against St. Martin's wasn't much better as the Saints scored the game's first 10 runs over five innings, before Ruiz's blast got the Toros on the board.

CSUDH looked to extend the game past 5.0 innings, but Cortinas was thrown out at the plate for the final out of the inning in the contests shortened due to the run rule.

The Toros take on Central Washington tomorrow at 4:30 pm as the Desert Stinger continues.
