Lee's Triple Proves Difference as Toros Escape With 63-62 Win Over Coyotes

CARSON -- Senior Monay Lee found herself wide open with 38 seconds left on the clock and the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team trailing 62-60, and did what she does best by lining up from behind the 3-point line and draining what proved to be the game-winning bucket as the host Toros escaped a long layoff and a pesky CS San Bernardino team in a 63-62 barnburning win.

CSUDH remains undefeated in CCAA play at 3-0, while moving to 5-6 overall.

Here's Lee after her game-winning heroics.

Although it has been two weeks since the Toros saw action, they still shot 41.9 percent from the floor and saw four players reach double figures in points. Breanne Garcia led both teams with draining all 16 of her points in the first half, Imari Brown had 13, Ali Bettencourt finished with 11 and the hero Lee contributed to a dozen to go along with eight rebounds.

The Coyotes, meanwhile, couldn't carry the winning momentum they built last night at Cal State L.A. despite shooting 40 percent and making 23 of 27 free throws. Alexcia Mack led the way with 16 points including 11 from the charity stripe.

While both teams did shoot above their season averages, neither side really took care of the ball, combining for 43 turnovers.

After Lee's 3-pointer made the 14th lead change on the night, the Coyotes did get the last chance to seal the game-winner after a Toro turnover. Chelsea Barnes took the game-winning shot attempt with 5 seconds left only to be rebounded by Lee at the buzzer.

Neither team lead by more than eight points throughout the night. The Toros went into halftime leading by one (28-27).

The Toros, once again, will now have to wait until the final day of 2015 to resume play as they welcome NCAA and CCAA newcomer Cal State San Marcos to the Torodome on New Year's Eve at 1 p.m.
