No. 21 Sonoma State Too Good in 3-0 Sweep

CARSON -- Red-hot and 21st-ranked Sonoma State hit just .173, but held Cal State Dominguez Hills to an .053 hitting percentage en route to a 3-0 sweep over the Toros in CCAA action.

Bridget Heins led the Toros with 10 kills, the lone CSUDH player in double-figure putaways, as the possibily of the Cardinal and Gold making the 8-team CCAA postseason tournament took a hit, leaving CSUDH two games from the 8th spot with just four matches left in the regular season.

The Toros charged to a 6-0 lead behind Dana Brown's serve, maintaining that cushion late in the opening set behind five Heins kills.

Up 19-15, however, the Toros saw the Seawolves regain their footing by outscoring the hosts 7-3 to forge a tie, using that momentum to take a 26-24 first set.

The second set was close in the early going behind four kills by Heins and three by Alijah Gunsaulus, until SSU turned a 5-5 tie into a 17-12 lead.  The advantage reached 19-12 on a Seawolf solo block, with the visitors maintaining their lead en route to a 25-17 win.

After the break, the two teams split the first 18 points of the third set, only to have the Seawolves again exert their will, outscoring CSUDH 9-2 to take an 18-11 lead.  The Toros crept to within three on a Heins putaway and to within 22-19 on a Seawolf error on the next point, but SSU scored the next three points to earn the sweep.

CSUDH continues CCAA hosting duties tomorrow night as Humboldt State visits Carson after getting swept by Cal State LA.
