Toros Third in D2SIDA Preseason West Region Poll, RV Nationally

BILLINGS, Montana -- Coming off a share of the 2014-15 California Collegiate Athletic Association regular season title and its second-straight CCAA Tournament crown, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team has been ranked third in the Women's Basketball Division II Regional Media Poll while receiving votes in the National Media Poll, it was announced by D2SIDA, the governing body of both polls.

The D2 Media Poll, in its second year of existence, consists of six representatives in eight regions, with two votes from each region comprising the national poll. This week's polls can be found here.

Led by seniors Breanne Garcia and Monay Lee, the Toros went 1-2 in the TipOff Classic the first weekend of November, winning the last game of the tournament on November 1 in a 68-63 decision over William Jewell.

A week later, CSUDH took on and toppled Division I UC Santa Barbara in an exhibition road contest, with Garcia cutting up the Gaucho offense en route to 24 points in a 70-67 win that saw the Toros take as large as a 10-point lead with just over six minutes left in regulation.

With three players averaging double-figure scoring in Garcia (16.3 ppg), Lee (11.0 ppg) and Femi Hamilton (10.7 ppg), CSUDH takes on Point Loma and Azusa Pacific in the PacWest/CCAA Challenge this weekend, before kicking off CCAA play against UC San Diego on Tuesday, November 17.

Alaska Anchorage leads the West Region schools and is followed by Cal Baptist, with Western Washington and UC San Diego rounding out the top five.

Beginning next week, the regional poll will be released every Monday, followed by the national poll every Tuesday.
