BYU-Hawai'i Sneaks Away With Overtime Victory Over Women's Soccer

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team suffered another tough defeat on a chilly Tuesday evening.

Ida Eriksson scored her second goal in the last three matches in the 37th minute, but the lead was lost on free kicks 1:20 later and 19 seconds into overtime as BYU-Hawai`i's leading scorer Natalie Reynolds scored both goals to help her Seasider squad escape Toro Stadium with a 2-1 win.
 
CSUDH falls to 1-9-0 after playing its first overtime period this season. BYU-Hawai`i, which played its first road match in the Main Land this season, improved to 2-4-2.
 
It appeared to have been a balanced matchup on paper. CSUDH edged BYU-Hawai`i in shots, 12-10 overall, but both teams had four of them on goal.
 
After going back-and-forth with possession, it was the Toros that struck first. Naomi Willey kept possession on the right side of the penalty box and made a perfect cross to Eriksson for the header.
 
The Toros lead disappeared rather quickly when Kate Gurney's free kick from 35 yards found the foot of Reynolds inside the box. Reynolds slotted the ball into an uncovered hole on the left side to net the equalizer.
 
CSUDH tried to replicate how it scored in the first half with crosses into the goal box but couldn't came up short.
 
BYU-Hawai`i capitalized on a golden opportunity in overtime when Reynolds took a direct free kick right on the edge of the penalty line into the left post and ricochet into the net.
 
The Toros return to California Collegiate Athletic Association play Friday when they welcome Chico State for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
