Chica, Bouarroudj Power No. 7 Toros to Shutout Win Over Seasiders

CARSON -- Joey Chica scored in the eventual match winner and Rayane Bouarroudj provided the insurance policy as the seven-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team never showed fatigue in a 2-0 non-conference win over BYU-Hawai`i on a rare Tuesday evening.

The Toros improve to 9-1-2 overall and have extended their unbeaten streak to 11, one shy from matching the best mark since the 2009 team won a dozen straight. The Seasiders, who made their first trip to the Main Land this season, dropped to 3-5-0.

Chica, who missed last weekend's California Collegiate Athletic Association matches, came back and scored his third goal of the season in the 34th minute. Edson Lemus and Brian Chavez connected to Chica on the left side, where he fired an unanswered shot into the back of the net.

Bouarroudj provided the insurance goal in the 54th minute. Israel Murguia, from the right side of the penalty box, chipped a beautiful cross to find the head of Bouarroudj.

The first half initially belonged to the Toros in terms of possession. CSUDH outshot BYU-Hawai`i 9-4 overall, 4-1 in goal.

BYU-Hawai`i jumped right out of the gate trying to net the equalizer. One notable highlight came in the 49th minute; Besser Davila fired a shot from inside the goal box only to be blocked by a diving Chase Gentry.

The Toros dominated nearly every statistical category, outshooting the Seasiders 21-8 overall, 8-3 on goal. They also had a 9-4 advantage on corner kicks.

Before taking a well-deserved weekend off, the Toros resume CCAA action Friday when it hosts Chico State under the lights at 7 p.m.
