No. 5 Toros Handed First League Loss of Year in Regular Season Finale at Stanislaus State

TURLOCK -- Coming off the euphoria of claiming the California Collegiate Athletic Association regular season title via Thursday's win, fifth-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills fell prey to a Stanislaus State team celebrating its seniors, and the result was a 2-0 setback for the NCAA West's top-seeded team as well as the top-seeded team in next week's CCAA Tournament.

Pedro Velasquez rattled off a team-high four shots to pace the Cardinal and Gold, which fell to 14-2-2, 9-1-2 CCAA.

The Toros found the better play in the first stanza by out-shooting the Warriors 8-6, but offensive threat Daniel Kuczynski got the hosts on the board first in the 25h minute after a deflection found him in front of the Toro goal, and his blast eluded CSUDH keeper Chase Gentry for a 1-nil lead.

That's where the score remained until the second half when a flurry of Warrior blasts doubled their lead in the 47th minute, as Gerardo Cazares connected from the top of the box.

Stanislaus continued to pepper Gentry and the Toro defense to the tune of a 14-4 second-half shot advantage, forcing Gentry to make 5 saves in the period.

The Toros were blanked for just the second time this season, with the first shutout coming in the 2015 season opener against Point Loma.

With the first round of the CCAA Tournament set pitting seeds Nos. 3-6, top-seeded CSUDH will face the winner of No. 5 seed Sonoma State and No. 4 seed Stanislaus State on Friday, November 6, in the first CCAA semifinal game at 4:30 pm, on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona.
