No. 6 Toros Blank Golden Eagles, 1-0, on Senior Day

CARSON -- Senior Jaime Rios hammered in his second goal of the season after taking a feed and spinning 180 degrees as 6th-ranked and the NCAA West's top seed in Cal State Dominguez Hills earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over crosstown rival Cal State L.A. to conclude the regular season homestand.

With the win, CSUDH improves to 13-1-2, 8-0-2 CCAA, running its unbeaten streak to 15 games with just two contests left in the regular season.  The Toros also now are within one win away from clinching one of the top two seeds for the upcoming CCAA Tournament, assuring them a first-round bye.

Here's Rios on his game-winner.

It was a tale of two halves as the Toros dominated the first 45 minutes of action, out-shooting the visitors 11-4 in the frame.  That onslaught paid early dividends as Gilberto Rocha sent a cross to Rios, who collected, wheeled and fired past CSULA keeper Anthony Perez for a quick 1-0 lead just with just over six minutes elapsed.

CSUDH continued to pepper the Golden Eagle defense, causing Perez to coming up with five saves in the frame compared to just two for counterpart Chase Gentry.

The roles reversed in the second half as CSULA amped up its offense, launching 12 shots against just two for the hosts while out-cornering CSUDH 5-nil.  The Toro defense, however, was more than up to the challenge as nine of CSULA's shots were sent away from goal, forcing Gentry to make just three saves in the final 45 minutes of play.

Rios and Pedro Velasquez each launched three shots to lead the offensive charge as the Toros dropped CSULA into a three-way tie for third place in the CCAA.

Prior to the game, the Toros honored 10 of their seniors in a pregame ceremony in Tony Alfaro, Pedro Velasquez, Jose Vaca, Andrew Johnson, Rios, Rayane Bouarroudj, Edson Lemus, Irvin Aguiniga, Zack Irons and Josh Robinson.
