Otters Get Best of Toros in 2-0 Decision

SEASIDE -- Cal State Monterey Bay's women's soccer team picked up its first California Collegiate Athletic Association win of the year in a 2-0 decision over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills, despite being outshot by a 10-8 count. Naomi Linares led the visitors with two attempts, including one on frame.

The Toros (1-11-1, 0-7-1 CCAA) made a strong effort defensively despite allowing the eventual match-winning goal 2:38 into the match. Keeper Elisa Martin had to make two saves on the evening.

Even though the Otters (4-9-1, 1-6-1 CCAA) got the three points they needed to move up the league standings, they did so with a physical effort, drawing 17 fouls comparing to the Toros seven.

Regan Porteous put her Otters ahead 1-0 with assistance from Hannah Kind. Kind found Porteous in the box, who dribbled by the defense and beat Martin for the keeper. The Otters took a 2-0 lead in the 83rd minute. Michelle Garrone connected to Kristen Womack who fired from the top of the box into the upper right corner of the net.

The Toros venture to the City by the Bay where San Francisco State awaits them Sunday at 2 p.m.
