Champion Sets CSUDH Single Game Record for Threes in Convincing 64-46 Win at Sonoma State

ROHNERT PARK -- Senior Tayler Champion broke a 15-year old Cal State Dominguez Hills record for 3-pointers made in a single game with nine as the Toros rolled past Sonoma State in a convincing 64-46 win.

CSUDH maintains its hold on a 2nd-place tie with Cal Poly Pomona while moving to 15-5, 10-2 CCAA.

The Toros held Sonoma State to just 20.8 percent shooting from the floor as the hosts misfired on all 10 attempts from three-point range in Saturday's loss on Pink The Den Night in Rohnert Park.

The Seawolves have lost six straight games, falling to 6-10 overall and 4-8 in the CCAA.

CSUDH opened the game on a 15-0 run and eventually stretched its lead to as much as 20 points at 23-3 just eight minutes into the contest.  Sonoma State didn't record its first field goal until 8:21 remaining in the first half as the Seawolves would only get to within 11 points on several different occasions, with the last coming at the 12:40 mark of the second half.  The Toros, however, then went on a 22-7 run over the next eight minutes to put the game out of reach befire settling on the 18-point win.

The Seawolves were held to 11 field goals in 53 attempts, six coming in the first half and five in the second.

Breanne Garcia added 12 points for the Toros in the victory as the only other Toro to hit double-figure scoring, while outrebounding the Seawolves by 13, thanks in large part to Talia Rayford's game-high 14 boards.

Champion surpassed the total of eight triples, set first by Karee Bonde on February 25, 1993, against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and tied by Jessica Liang on February 28, 2008, against CS Stanislaus.

CSUDH continues its CCAA road swing next weekend at CS Stanislaus and Chico State, before returning home on Friday, February 6.
