Tritons Spoil Aggabao's Homecoming in 3-2 and 4-0 Wins to Kick Off CCAA Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LA JOLLA -- First-year Cal State Dominguez Hills head coach Kim Aggabao made her return to her alma mater for the final regular season series of the 2014 campaign, only to have her Toros drop a 3-2 decision to host UC San Diego in game one of today's twinbill, before a 4-0 setback in the nightcap.

Senior Elizabeth Jimenez knocked two hits with an RBI in the game one loss as CSUDH fell to 16-34 and 10-25 in CCAA play.

UCSD, meanwhile, snapped a five-game skid to move to 32-13 and 21-9 in the CCAA.

Alexis Edwards was the difference in the opener and tossed her 12th complete game of the season to power UCSD to the 3-2 win over the Toros.

The sophomore lefty snapped her three-game losing streak inside the circle and picked up her 18th win of the season, inducing 11 groundouts on the afternoon.

The offense backed the quality start with three runs on seven hits, led by two from Caitlin Brown.  The senior also finished an RBI, bringing her eight short of the UCSD all-time career record.

Jimenez began the scoring in the second with an RBI double to right field after Veronica Vazquez reached one batter earlier on a Triton error after the first two Toros made outs.

After the hosts tied the game at 1-1, CSUDH took the lead again in the fourth on a Madison Murphy sacrifice fly after another Triton miscue set the table for the true freshman.

The hosts, however, would capitalize on a Toro error in their fourth-inning at-bat, collecting three hits and plating two runs to take the lead for good.

The Tritons sealed the 3-2 win behind Edwards, who retired the Toros in order the final three innings.

Similar to game one, the nightcap was highlighted by the Triton starting pitcher. Manuel proved up to the task by delivering her seventh career complete-game shutout.

The senior allowed two hits, walked two and struck out three in the gem. She lowered her ERA to 2.88 following the win.

The Tritons led from start-to-finish after opening the game with a run in the first, and tallied a single run in the second, fifth and sixth frames, respectively, to win 4-0.

UCSD finished with 10 hits, giving them 24 games with 10 or more hits.

The CCAA set continues tomorrow at Triton Softball Field with a doubleheader starting at 12 noon.
