No. 2 Otters Spoil Senior Day in 7-3 and 4-2 Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CARSON -- Second-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay took a pair of wins to close the Cal State Dominguez Hills home schedule for the 2014 season, taking 7-3 and 4-2 victories to bookend a Senior Day ceremony that honored six Toros in between contests.

The losses drop the Toros to 16-32, 10-22 CCAA.

Tied 3-3 heading into the final frame after an Adriana Sanchez RBI single and Brittany Brenner RBI double in the third gave the Toros their first lead and an Elizabeth Jimenez RBI single in the sixth tied the game, the Otters eruped for four runs on four hits and a Toro error, and that proved the difference in the 7-3 game one decision.

Senior Adriana Sanchez went 2-for-2 with a run and RBI, also reaching twice via base on balls to give her seven walks in three games this series, with Brenner joining her senior teammate with two hits as well.

In the nightcap, the visitors broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fourth before CSUDH answered with a Jimenez sacrifice fly in the fourth and an Alexandra Mootry lead-off home run in the sixth to claw within striking distance at 3-2.

The Otters, however, had other thoughts after scoring an insurance run in the seventh on a solo home run, spoiling the Toros Senior Day celebration prior to the nightcap.

Mootry went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Sanchez added three more walks to give her 10 free passes for the weekend, with all five of today's walks on four straight balls.

In between games, the Toros honored six seniors in Brenner, Catherine Brown, Jimenez, Karen Peterson, Sanchez and Veronica Vazquez who were playing in their final games on Toro Diamond.

CSUDH concludes its 2014 season next weekend at UC San Diego.
