Chico State Takes Two From Toros in CCAA Action

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CHICO -- Host Chico State continued momentum from yesterday's nightcap en route to a 6-4 and 3-2 sweep over Cal State Dominguez Hills today at the University Softball Field.  Catherine Brown went 4-for-8 in the two games with two runs scored.

With the losses, CSUDH drops to 14-10, 8-6 CCAA.

The Wildcats took charge of game one early with three runs in their first at-bat off Toro starter Jamie Duran, who took the loss after allowing 14 hits in the game.

CSUC added three more in the 6th for a commanding 6-0 lead before the Toros mounted a rally.

Down to their final at-bat, the Toros put together five hits for four runs, with a Madison Murphy 2RBI double, Adriana Sanchez RBI double and Kaci McGinnis RBI single accounting for the runs.

CSUC reliever Brooke Langeloh, however, closed the door on the Toro rally by inducing a ground out to end the game.

The 1-2-3 Toro hitters in Brown, Murphy and Sanchez each roped two hits in the loss as part of 10 for CSUDH.

The nightcap saw the visitors scrape across single runs in the 2nd and 3rd frames on an RBI singles by Elizabeth Jimenez and McGinnis to stake starter Alicia Paiz to a 2-0 lead, but Chico State clawed back in its final at-bat for the final three runs, all with two out and after a costly Toro error.

Brown, McGinnis and Jimenez each stroked a pair of hits while Paiz scattered five hits in the loss.

CSUDH will resume its postponed CCAA twinbill at CS San Bernardino on Tuesday, March 11, before hosting Sonoma State for a CCAA four-game series starting Friday, March 14.
