Softball Still in RV Category in Latest NFCA Top 25 Poll

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Coming off a week of inactivity after Mother Nature postponed the regularly scheduled four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series at Cal State San Bernarino, the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team continued to receive votes in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, released this morning.

The Toros, now at 13-7, 7-3 CCAA after CSUDH and CSUSB split a double-header last Monday, are led by senior outfielder Catherine Brown and senior slugger Adriana Sanchez.

Brown and Sanchez currently are tied for the team lead with 29 hits, with Sanchez posting a team-best 11 doubles, 20 RBI, .826 slugging percentage, a triple and five home runs, the latter tied with Stephanie Hua for the most on the squad.

Brown, meanwhile, leads in on-base percentage and stolen bases, and sits second in doubles, third in SLG% and fourth in RBI.

In the circle, sophomore Jamie Duran sits at 8-4 overall with a 2.90 ERA in her first season seeing significant action, fanning 30 batters thus far under the tutelage of first-year head coach Kim Aggabao.

Humboldt State fell three spots to No. 7 as the top-ranked CCAA school, with UC San Diego at No. 11 and Cal State Monterey Bay receiving votes to round out the four league schools on the national radar.

At No. 3 and having received one first-place vote, Cal Baptist is the highest ranking West Region school on the poll, with Dixie State at No. 22 and Central Washington receiving votes to round out the other West Region schools that made the tally.

The Toros travel to Chico State for a four-game CCAA, starting with a Friday double-header set for a 12 noon start.
