Toros Downed by Long Ball Again in 5-1 and 8-0 (5) Losses to No. 6 HSU on Little League Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CARSON -- No. 6 Humboldt State continued to flex its home run hitting prowess as the Jacks slugged four total bombs in today's twinbill sweep, sweeping the regular series with 5-1 and 8-0 (5) wins over host Cal State Dominguez Hills on "Little League Day."

With the losses, the Toros drop to 19-6, 8-17 CCAA.

Kaci McGinnis provided the run-scoring hit for the Toros in the opener with an RBI double in the fifth to get CSUDH on the board as part of her 2-for-4 effort.

The game was scoreless heading into the 4th when a Toro error and RBI double by Dani Randall preceded a 3-run blast by Julie Pena for a 4-0 lead.

HSU added another one inning later on a solo shot by catcher Darian Harris, before McGinnins got that run back in CSUDH's 5th inning, driving in Madison Murphy, who drew a two-out walk one batter earlier.

Jamie Duran took the complete-game loss.

In the nightcap, the Jacks scored two runs in their first two at-bats, and then four in the fourth to provide the mercy run rule margin in a game that was called after 5 innings of play.

CSUDH nearly matched HSU in hits with its seven, but two of the Jacks's eight hits went over the fence to give them a total of 11 home runs hit over a four-game span.

Adriana Sanchez and Brittany Brenner each roped two hits as CSUDH stranded eight batters in the loss, with Karen Peterson taking the defeat to fall to 4-3 on the year.

After the game, little league players from the North Torrance Girls Softball League in attendance were able to meet the Toros and ask questions, with head coach Kim Aggabao presenting each of the players with photos of the 2014 squad.
