No. 6 Humboldt State Takes 7-4 and 9-1 Sweep in Odyssey of Home Runs

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CARSON -- Entering today's twinbill already with 43 home runs, 6th-ranked Humboldt State clubbed seven more en route to offensive 7-4 and 9-1 wins over Cal State Dominguez Hills to sweep Friday's CCAA twinbill.

Madison Murphy tallied two of the Toros hits on the day, including a triple and 2-run jack of her own in the loss.

The Jacks put up four in the second inning on a 2RBI double by Sarah Fox and a 2-run jack by Julie Pena, adding two more on a 2-run blast by Hannah Williams an inning later.

Murphy gave CSUDH its first hit in the 3rd, a 2-run bomb to dead center to cut HSU's lead to 6-2, before Tiffany Hollingsworth got one back with a solo blast in the 4th.

Adriana Sanchez, however, displayed her own home run stroke in the 6th after Murphy roped a triple one batter earlier, with the blast connecting off the top of the Toro scoreboard just to the right of dead center.

Sanchez's home run tied her for the CSUDH record for home runs in a career, one that former Toro All-American Emiley McEwen set in her third year in a Toro uniform.

The nightcap was more of the same for HSU as a Julie Pena 3-run shot opened the scoring, with home runs by Hollingsworth, Dani Randall and Sarah Fox capping HSU's power display.

CSUDH notched its only run of the game in the 5th after Murphy reached on a fielding error with the bases loaded.

Alicia Paiz took the complete-game loss as CSUDH managed just three hits in the game.

The two teams will conclude their four-game set tomorrow morning, with first pitch set for 11:00 am on Toro Diamond, with the Toro Sports Network calling all the play-by-play for both games.
