Sonoma State Completes Series Sweep After 1-0 and 11-6 Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CARSON -- It wasn't the Golden Age of All-American pitchers Stephanie Jimenez and Samantha Lipperd, but you never would have guessed it after CSUDH starter Jamie Duran and Sonoma State starter Amanda Llerena gave up seven hits between them, with the Seawolves eeking out a 1-0 win in the opening game of Saturday's CCAA twinbill.

SSU completed the weekend and series sweep in the nightcap with an offensive 11-6 victory as the Toros fall to 14-16, 8-12 CCAA after suffering their eighth- and ninth-straight losses today.

The opener was scoreless through four until the fifth until Ancia Purdy laced a one-out triple, and was brought home one batter later on a Leanna Georges sacrifice fly.

That proved more than enough for Llerena, who picked up her second win in as many days after fanning seven against two walks.

No player stroked more than one hit as CSUDH was limited to three in the loss.

The nightcap again took on a more offensive tone as the teams combined for 14 runs scored in just two innings.

Looking to salvage one of the four games, CSUDH struck for five in the third on five hits, the big blow coming on a Stephanie Hua 2RBI that saw the Toros strand two runners in the process.

That proved huge as the Seawolves stormed back with seven in the fourth inning, sending 12 batters to the plate with Leanna Georges tallying a 2RBI double and Megan Konieczka belting a 3-run blast as part of seven hits.

SSU put the game away for good two innings later as Konieczka again went deep putting the finishing touches on the four-game sweep.

Madison Murphy tallied two hits in the nightcap loss, despite SSU committing three errors.

Alicia Paiz suffered the loss as she was tagged for eight hits and seven earned runs, while SSU's Melissa Smith tossed just 1.0 inning to pick up the win.

CSUDH's homestand doesn't get much easier as it welcomes No. 6 Humboldt State to Toro Diamond next weekend, with Friday's twinbill set for 1 pm.
