Softball Concludes Desert Stinger With 8-0 Win Over MSU Billings

Box Score

LAS VEGAS, NV -- Three was the magic number today as senior Catherine Brown roped three hits and freshman Madison Murphy drove in three runs while sophomore Jamie Duran scattered three hits as the Toros softball team cruised to an 8-0 win over host Montana State Billings on the final day of the Desert Stinger tournament.

The Toros now have won 6-straight games while improving to 6-4 on the year.

The two teams engaged in a pitcher's duel early, as CSUDH pushed across a run in the 1st after Stephanie Hua drove in Brown with an RBI single after Brown opened the game with a double.

The Toros added two in the 4th on a Brown RBI single and a Murphy fielder's choice, before breaking the game open an inning later with four runs, with Murphy's two RBI single providing the big blow.

Up 7-0 after five, CSUDH made the game a short one with a single run in the 6th after a Veronica Vazquez RBI double, which starter Duran made count after hurling another scoreless inning in the 6th to end the game via the run rule.

Adriana Sanchez roped a pair of hits to join Brown as the Toros with at least two hits, while Duran improved to 3-3 on the year.

For their efforts throughout the tournament, Duran and Kaci McGinnis both were selected to the 2nd-team All-Tournament team, while Brown was chosen an Honorable Mention All-Tournament selection.

CSUDH kicks off the CCAA schedule next weekend with a four-game set at CS Stanislaus.
