LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Following its 19-hit attack to conclude last weekend's Best of the West Tournament with its first win of 2014, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros kicked off the Desert Stinger tournament with 24 hits today in wins over Western Washington (10-5) and Regis (9-3) on day one of the Desert Stinger Tournament.

Senior Catherine Brown enjoyed a 2-for-3, 3-run, 2-walk, 2 stolen base effort with junior Stephanie Hua connecting for a 2-run shot in the opener, while junior Kaci McGinnis (pictured) went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI in the nightcap win.

The Toros improve to 3-4 with today's undefeated ledger.

Jamie Duran picked up her first win of the year after a complete-game effort against the Vikings, allowing 4 earned runs with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks alike as CSUDH improves to 2-4 on the year.

After plating two runs each in the first two innings on two WWU errors and baseknocks by Jasmine Ruiz and Adriana Sanchez, an Elizabeth Jimenez RBI single in the 3rd preceded three RBI singles in the 4th to bring the Toros to an 8-3 lead, before adding a pair of runs in the 5th, courtesy of Hua's third home run of the year, a 2-run shot to dead center.

The Vikings attempted a comeback after a 2-run blast of their own in the top of the 7th, but Duran fielded secured a line drive up the box for the final out of the game, putting a seal on the win.

Brown, Sanchez, Kaci McGinnis, Ruiz and Jimenez all belted two hits in the win, with Hua and Ruiz driving in a pair of runs as well.

In the nightcap, CSUDH got on the board in the bottom of the 1st after Sanchez connected for her first blast of the year to lead off the frame, after which a McGinnis RBI single put the Toros up by two.

After Regis answered with three runs in the top of the 4th, the Toros answered right back with seven, the big blow coming on a McGinnis 2RBI double and two more runs coming across the plate on one of the three Ranger miscues in the frame.

Karen Peterson picked up the win after scattering six hits with two strikeouts as Analisa Nicholson and Jimenez each contributed a pair of hits in the win.

The Toros will continue the Desert Stinger tomorrow at 2 pm, facing Northwest Nazarene.
