CARSON -- Bolstered by four home runs today, including two by Adriana Sanchez, a grand slam by Brittany Brenner and the first career blast by Catherine Brown (pictured), the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball squad powered its way to identical 9-1 wins over visiting San Francisco State, with both victories coming in 5-inning contests via the mercy run rule as the Toros celebrated "Think Pink" day on Toro Diamond.

The Toros improve to 12-6, 6-2 CCAA with the sweep, while the Gators dip to 5-10, 1-7 CCAA.

Before the contest, breast cancer survivor Sylvia Muett threw out the honorary first pitch to niece and Toro senior Elizabeth Jimenez, with both CSUDH and SFSU donned in "Think Pink" jerseys to help raise awareness.

Game one of today's twinbill was a pitcher's duel for all of an inning, when the Toro bats turned a 1-1 tie into an 8-1 rout in a span of three innings after scoring four times in the 2nd and three more in the 4th to put the game away.

In the 2nd, an Alexandra Mootry one-out walk, Elizabeth Jimenez RBI double and Veronica Vazquez single set the plate for Brown, who pulled her shot deep over the right-center field fence set off a raucous celebration at home plate to commemmorate the first long ball of Brown's career.

The Toros added three more two innings later after Brown laced an RBI double to the opposite field, which was followed by a 2RBI single by Sanchez.

Brenner followed that win a pinch-hit RBI double to the gap in left-center to provide the 8-run cushion in the 5-inning opener, which was plenty for starter Jamie Duran, who scattered five hits in the win.

CSUDH continued its hot bats in the 1st inning of the nightcap with a seven-run outburst, the highlight coming on a Brenner grand slam, a blast that preceded a Vazquez RBI single and Brown 2RBI double for the final three runs of the frame.

After the Gators got a run back in the 4th, CSUDH added two in its 4th-inning at-bat as Sanchez went deep for her second home run of the day.

That was plenty for starter Alicia Paiz, who improved to 1-1 after scattering seven hits.

CSUDH will continue CCAA play next week at CS San Bernardino, with Friday's first game set for 1 pm in the Inland Empire.
