Softball Sweeps Friday Twinbill Against Gators to Open Home Schedule

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills softball took the series opener versus San Francisco State to kick off its home schedule in a 6-5 final as newcomer Madison Murphy went 2-for-4 with a home run in game one, before a 4-run 4th in the night proved the difference in the Friday afternoon sweep of the Gators.

The Toros improve to 10-6, 4-2 CCAA with the wins.

The opener was a see-saw battle that saw the lead change thrice, with the Toros surviving despite three errors in the game.  After SFSU took a 1-0 lead in the 1st, CSUDH answered back with two in the bottom half of the 1st on an Adriana Sanchez RBI triple and a Stephanie Hua RBI double that plated Sanchez.

With CSUDH up 3-2 after three, the Gators took the lead with three in the 4th on a pair of Toro errors to put the hosts on their heels.

But Murphy began the Toro comeback in the 5th after belting a lead-off home run, with Hua driving in her second run of the game three batters later as Sanchez crossed home plate after reaching on a SFSU error after Murphy's bomb.

CSUDH put the finishing touches on its comeback one inning later after Veronica Vazquez led off the frame with a double, and scored on a Catherine Brown infield single.

Jamie Duran picked up the win after tossing a complete game, allowing just two earned runs with one strikeout.

The nightcap saw the hosts get on the board first as a Brown double in the 3rd was followed by a Sanchez single to center one batter later, with Brown crossing home plate on a Gator error.

SFSU knotted the game in its next at-bat, before the Toros put the game away with four in the 4th, knocking out Gator starter Courtney Dunkel while receiving RBI baseknocks from Vazquez, Brown, Sanchez and Hua.

Karen Peterson earned the win after 5.2 innings of work, allowing just two hits and one earned run scored.

The two teams conclude the four-game set tomorrow morning at 11 am, designing the day as "Think Pink" Saturday.
