Softball Powers to Opening Game Win at Stanislaus Before Warriors Power Back in Nightcap

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TURLOCK -- Cal State Dominguez overcame an error-filled opening session by both teams at Cal State Stanislaus with a 7-run 6th inning en route to a 10-7 come-from-behind win, powered by Kaci McGinnis and Adriana Sanchez (pictured) home runs.

CSUS, however, flexed its own power stroke in the nightcap as it routed the Toros in a 12-0, 5-inning run-rule contest.

It was all Stanislaus in the opener after the hosts scampered to a 4-0 lead after three innings of play.

CSUDH cut its deficit in half in the 5th as a Madison Murphy double to lead off the frame preceded McGinnis' blast on an 0-1 count.

The Toros rolled a seven in their next at-bat, sending 11 batters to the plate and capitalizing on three Warrior errors.

After Sanchez brought home the frame's first run with a sacrifice fly, the second CSUS error brought home two more, with a McGinnis RBI double tallying the inning's fourth run.

Elizabeth Jimenez then stroked a 2-run double, before the third error resulted in Jimeenz scoring the seventh and final run of the inning.

CSUS got a pair back in the bottom of the 6th, but Sanchez gave the Toros another run with a two-out blast in the 7th in the eventual 10-7 comeback win.

Murphy, Sanchez and McGinnis tallied multiple hits in the win, with Sanchez, McGinnis and Jimenez driving in at least two runs.

Jamie Duran earned the complete-game win, allowing four earned runs after 114 pitches thrown.

The nightcap was all CSUS as the hosts tagged Toro starter Alicia Paiz for 10 earned runs in 2.0 innings of work, plating eight runs in the 2nd.

Duran came in for mop-up work in the 3rd, but allowed two herself in the eventual loss.

On the bright side, the Toros had eight runners in scoring position with Catherine Brown and Sanchez earning multi-hit efforts.

The Toros will open its 2014 homestand next Friday in a twinbill against San Francisco State after the first 14 games away from Toro Diamond, with first pitch of game one set for 1 pm.
