Toros Take Down Warriors in 69-59 Final

Box Score

CARSON -- Coming off a decisive win at Sonoma State last weekend, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team continued its stellar play in a 69-59 win over visiting Cal State Stanislaus tonight on "Think Pink" day.

Tayler Champion led all scorers with 19 points, while Talia Rayford (pictured) notched the team's lone double-double as CSUDH improves to 16-5, 12-5 CCAA, keeping pace with Cal State L.A, who took down Chico State in other league action.

The Toros played like a team fighting for a first round by in the upcoming CCAA tournament, racing out to an early 7-point lead after a Breanne Garcia lay-up at the 11:28 mark of the first half.

After the Warriors tied the contest at 17-17 with just over six minutes left, CSUDH closed the half on a 16-4 run to enter the break leading 33-21.

CSUDH continued to fire on all cylinders after the break, pushing its lead to as much as 16 on a Monay Lee bucket with under a minute elapsed.

CSUS whittled its deficit to single digits five minutes later, and to just four at 45-41 with 12:14 left in regulation.   A pair of Lauren Godde free throws got CSUS to within 46-45, but a triple by Champion and bucket by Lee gave the Toros breathing room, with clutch free throw shooting down the stretch accounting for the final 69-59 tally.

Lee added 14 and Garcia 10 to give the Toros four scorers with at least 10 points as CSUDH shot 42.6% from the field and 40.9% from 3-point land, led by Champion's five makes from downtown.

The Toros will look to avenge an earlier season loss to the Wildcats tomorrow night on "Pack the Stands Night," with the game being streamed live on the Toro Sports Network.
