Toros Out-Warrior Warriors 5-0 in CCAA Opener Before Extra-Inning Loss in Nightcap

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TURLOCK -- Reigning CCAA Pitcher of the Week Jamie Duran lived up to her billing in game one of today's CCAA opening series at Cal State Stanislaus, scattering five hits in a 5-0 win.

The host Warriors, however, salvaged a double-header split after an 8-inning 3-2 walk-off win to move the Toros to 7-5, 1-1 CCAA.

CSUDH kicked off the scoring with a single run in the 3rd as Stephanie Hua continued her hot hitting with an RBI double to center to plate Madison Murphy, who singled one batter before.

The Toros added a four-spot three innings later on five hits and a pair of Warrior errors, with RBI hits coming from Adriana Sanchez, Veronica Vazquez and Murphy.

That was plenty for Duran, who allowed just five singles as Catherine Brown and Hua enjoyed multi-hit games, with each belting a double in the win.

Duran fanned five batters in the win on 106 total pitches.

The nightcap saw CSUDH take a 1-0 lead in the 2nd after Sanchez connected for her second home run of the year, this one an opposite field jack.

After the hosts tied the game in the 4th, CSUDH answered in the 5th as Murphy brought home another run with a single to right-center, only to have the hosts answer in the 6th off Duran, who entered for Toro starter Alicia Paiz, sending the game to extras, where a Kristan Burns 2-out single ended the game and forged an afternoon split.

Sanchez and Murphy each enjoyed a 2-for-4 performance in the loss.

The two teams will conclude their four-game set tomorrow morning at the Warrior Softball Field, with first pitch of game one set for 11:00 am.
