Toros Make Their Point Against Crusaders

AZUSA -- Letting a sizable lead disappear in yesterday's loss at Azusa Pacific, the Cal State Dominguez Hills womens basketball team wasn't about to make the same mistake twice as it used a 23-point first half edge as a springboard in a 71-42 rout over Point Loma behind Breanne Garcia's career-high 26 points, including a nearly perfect 7-of-8 from the foul line.

Both teams move to 1-1 on the young season with the Toros opening its 2014-15 homestand on Friday night, facing St. Martin's for a 5 pm first tip.

After the teams were tied at 9-9 with 14:07 left in the first half, the Toros took over with a 14-3 run, with Monay Lee providing the exclamation point with a 3-pointer, the assist going to Garcia.

CSUDH kept its foot on the pedal for the rest of the half, with a Talia Rayford bucket with less than a minute left pushing the lead to 37-14 at intermission.

It was more of the same for the Toros after the break as the lead swelled to 49-20 on a Garcia triple with five minutes gone in the second half, reaching a high of 31 points at 66-35 on a Kielyn Wilson basket with 3:04 left in the runaway.

Garcia scored 14 of her points in the second period on 4-of-6 shooting while 12-of-15 from the charity stripe kept PLNU at arm's length the rest of the half.

The Toros shot a solid 40.4% from the floor while dominating the glass to the tune of a 55 to 29 rebounding advangtage, pulling down 19 on the offensive end that resulted in an 18-9 edge on second-chance points and a 26-14 edge on points in the paint.
