Toros Limp Into CCAA Tournament as No. 4 Seed After 2-0 Loss at UCSD

LA JOLLA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills ended the 2014 regular season with a 2-0 setback at UC San Diego, slipping to the No. 4 seed entering this weekend's CCAA Tournament, where it will host No. 5 seed CS San Bernardino on Sunday at 1 pm.

CSUDH, winless in its last three games, finished the regular season at 8-8-2, 6-4-1 CCAA, as Israel Murguia and Joey Chica led the Toros with three shots each, including a shot on goal each.

With neither team able to find the back of the net in the first half, the game was decided in a span of four minutes when the hosts struck twice, the first on a cross to the goal mouth that Malek Bashti ripped into the upper right corner past CSUDH keeper Chase Gentry at the 51:16 mark, with the second coming at 54:51 as Brandun Bauman sent a free kick past Gentry and into the left side of the net.

CSUDH doubled the Tritons shot total on the night and nearly tripled the host's number of corners, but UCSD won the battle where it counted, securing the No. 3 seed in the process.

The Toros and Coyotes met on September 28, in San Bernardino, with CSUDH besting CSUSB by a 3-1 count.  In that game, Pedro Velasquez scored a pair of second-half goals as part of three unanswered to secure the victory, with Edson Lemus assisting on both Velasquez scores in the first meeting.
