Warriors Stun Toros in 2-1, 2OT Thriller

CSUDH still earns CCAA Tournament 1st-round hosting duty on November 2

TURLOCK -- As if playing a man down for the final 62 minutes of regulation wasn't bad enough, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros saw a second red issued in the second overtime, and that proved costly as host Cal State Stanislaus scored the golden goal just three minutes later as the Warriors stunned the Toros in a 2-1, double overtime thriller.

Despite the loss, the Toros have clinched either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed, and will host the first round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament on Sunday, November 2, at 1 pm on the Carson campus.

Rayane Bouarroudj notched the lone goal for the Cardinal and Gold in the 23rd minute to account for CSUDH's lone score, but a dramatic turn of events late propelled the Warriors to the win, with Jose Ramirez's header with 3:57 left to play in the second overtime period lifted the hosts to victory in a match full of fouls and cards of both colors.

On Sunday, the Warriors got on the board first in the sixth minute as senior Larry Hernandez netted his first goal with an assist by fellow senior Carlos Gavino.

CSUDH (8-7-2, 6-3-1 CCAA) even the score in the 23rd minute on a goalby Rayane Bouarroudj as the teams were tied at 1-1 into the break.

The relatively evenly matched battle wasn't decided until the final couple of minutes when Ramirez scored his fifth goal of the year in the 107th minute for the golden goal.

However, a lot of physical play happened in between the goals. A total of 45 fouls were called with seven cautions and two ejections. The Toros played 62 minutes of regulation a man down when Mohammed Aided was given a red card in the 28th minute. Then CSUDH goalie Dylan Roberts also was ejected in the 104th minute when he came out of the box and used his hands to swat away a Stanislaus attempt.

Playing with a two-man advantage, the Warriors sent a corner kick in before the ball found its way out to Rafael Chavez. Chavez then connected with Ramirez's head with service back into the box for the thrilling game-winner.

Cal State Stanislaus again out-shot its opponents, 17-9, marking the 10th time in 16 matches this season the Warriors have accomplish that feat.

CSUDH will conclude the regular season at UC San Diego on Thursday, needing a win or tie against the Tritons to solidfy the No. 3 seed, while a loss would move the Toros to the No. 4 seed prior to the November 2, with its opponent being either the Tritons, CS San Bernardino or the Warriors in either scenario.
