CSUDH Men Fall to UCSD 80-59

Box Score
LA JOLLA -- The UCSD Tritons kept consistent control of the game in the 80-59 win over CSUDH tonight despite efforts by senior forward DeShaun Freeman earning 13 points.

With the loss, the Toros fall to 5-13 and 2-9 CCAA, while the Tritons improve to 8-7 and 4-7 CCAA.

Aleks Lipovic hit seven three-pointers and finished with a career-high 23 points to lead the Tritons Friday at RIMAC Arena in front of 3,902 loud fans on Spirit Night.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for UCSD, while the Toros dropped their sixth-straight.

For the night, Lipovic was 8-for-13 from the floor, making good on seven of his 12 shots from long range. The seven treys were the most netted by any Triton since Mike Meza hit seven at Cal State East Bay on Feb. 18, 2012. A redshirt freshman guard, Lipovic's previous career-best was 12 points.

Three other Tritons also finished in double figures as Adam Klie totaled 14 points and James McCann and Hunter Walker each had 12. McCann dished out 10 assists, one short of his career-high. Drew Dyer had a game co-high seven rebounds and added four steals.

Cal State Dominguez Hills got 13 points from Freeman, 11 out of Everett Turner and 10 from Chris Carvin. Darnell Martin had seven boards.

UC San Diego hit 53.6 percent (30-56) of its shots, the team's second best shooting percentage of the season. In the second half, the Tritons made 61.5 percent (16-26) of their attempts. UCSD out-rebounded the Toros, 37-23.

Lipovic scored the game's first points with a three-ball 49 seconds in and the Tritons would hold a lead for the rest of the game. They led 38-24 at halftime and pushed their advantage to as many as 26 when a layup by Michael Robinson made the score 80-54 with a minute remaining in the contest.

The Toros will try to snap their skid tomorrow at league leader CS San Bernardino.
