Toros Advance to NCAA West 2 Region Title Game with Win at No. 24 Dixie State

Box Score

ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Cal State Dominguez Hills got a head start against No. 24 Dixie State with a 2-run lead in the 1st en route to a 9-3 win in the second round of the NCAA West Region tournament.  The Toros scored nine runs on seven hits, and took advantage of DSU's five errors, which resulted in seven unearned runs.

Senior Stephanie Jimenez threw for 7.0 innings of work with one hit and two runs in the game, and earned the win against the Red Storm. Catherine Brown (pictured) went 1-for-2 today with one run and two RBI with a single down the right-field line in the 5th inning as CSUDH improved to 36-21 on the year.

The No. 6 seed left off from yesterday's 7th inning by scoring a pair of runs in the 1st and one in the 2nd for a quick 3-0 lead as Adriana Sanchez doubled to lead off the game and scored on fielder's interference, and was followed by Jimenez who scored on a Jasmine Ruiz RBI single for a 2-0 lead.

CSUDH added three more unearned runs in the 5th, capitalizing on a pair of errors with Brown's blow plating two runs.

Dixie State cut into its deficit with a single run in the 5th and made it a game with a pair in the 6th, but the Toros added three more in the 7th to put it away, again benefiting from a pair of Red Storm miscues for the game's final tally.

Sanchez led the charge with a 2-for-3, 2-run, 2-walk effort, with one of yesterday's heroes in Christina Chavez also drawing a pair of freebies.

Jimenez matched her win total from last year with her 26th victory, fanning 5 batters against a single walk.

The Toros will advance to the West 2 title game on Sunday at 11 am PST against the winner of Dixie State and Sonoma State for the West 2 crown, with a ticket to the Super Regional next weekend on the line.
