HAYWARD -- Cal State Dominguez Hills regrouped for a 10-0, 5-inning mercy run rule win over host Cal State East Bay after wasting a golden opportunity in a 4-3, 8-inning loss to the Pioneers to open the twinbill.

Junior slugger Adriana Sanchez (pictured) belted her 15th home run of the year in the 5th to account for all three Toro runs in the opener while CSUDH used
10 hits to mercy the Pioneers in game two, including an RBI double in the 1st from sophomore Kaci McGinnis to kick-start a 4-run 1st.

With the split, the Pioneers fall to 13-29 and 8-20 CCAA, while the Toros move to 26-19 and 13-15 CCAA.

In the nightcap, CSUDH wasted little time in taking charge of the contest as a Veronica Vazquez 2RBI double and Jessica Hall RBI single closed the scoring, with a pair of unearned runs in the 2nd and RBI baseknocks by Jasmine Ruiz and Catherine Brown as well as another Pio error accounting for three runs in the 3rd.

That was plenty for starter Stephanie Jimenez, who tossed all 5 innings and scattered four hits to improve to 16-7 on the year.

The Toro offense, highlighted by two hits each by Hall and Ruiz, went through four CSUEB pitchers to take the season series three games to one.

In the opener, CSUEB took an early 2-0 lead in the 4th, only to have Sanchez answer with a 3-run shot in the 5th to give the visitors a 3-2 lead.

The hosts, however, tied the game in the bottom of the 6th, sending the contest to extras.

CSUDH had a golden opportunity in the 8th after loading the bases with one out, but CSUEB starter Lauren Zweigle fanned Hall and induced a fly out to end the threat.

The Pios capitalized on their momentum in the bottom of the 8th with small ball as a lead-off single brought the runner to 3rd after a pair of ground outs, and came home on an infield single to short for the walk-off.

CSUDH will continue CCAA road action next weekend with a huge series at Cal State Monterey Bay just one game back of the Otters for 5th place in the league, and just three games back of Chico State for the 4th and final berth in the upcoming CCAA tournament.
