Gators Take Two From Fifth-Ranked Toros

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SAN FRANCISCO -- Fifth-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills saw its two-series win streak come to a halt as host San Francisco State took 5-2 and 2-0 wins over the Toros today at the SFSU Softball Field, despite junior sensation Adriana Sanchez slugging her 10th home run of the year in the opener.

With the losses, CSUDH falls to 15-7, 7-5 CCAA, while SFSU improves to 11-10, 7-9 CCAA.

After taking yesterday's nightcap, the Toros looked to continue that momemtum after a Kaci McGinnis RBI double in the 2nd and Sanchez's blast in the 5th gave the visitors a 2-0 lead after 5 innings of play.

That's when it all unraveled for the Toros as SFSU plated 5 runs in the 6th after the first two Gators were retired to knock out Toro starter Lauren Harper, the big blows coming on a Toro error with the bases loaded to tie the game at 2-2, and a Marisa Andrade 2RBI single off reliever Karen Peterson to drape momentum in purple and white.

McGinnis led the Toros with two hits in the loss, while Harper fanned 5 with no walks in falling to 6-5 on the year.

In the nightcap, SFSU continued its momentum off starter Stephanie Jimenez after Lucy Fernandez took Jimenez deep on a full count for a 1-0 lead, making it 2-0 on an RBI single after a Toro error allowed Jennifer Lewis to reach to open the frame, and score on an Ashley Huff single.

The Toros belted 7 hits with Sanchez accounting for 3 and Brittany Brenner accounting for 2 in the loss.

CSUDH had its share of opportunities with nine runners left on base as Emily Gibson picked up the win, with Jimenez being saddled with only her second loss of the year.

The Toros will return home next weekend to host last year's NCAA National runner-up and defending NCAA West Region Champion UC San Diego on Friday, with first pitch set for 1 pm on Toro Diamond.  The games will be streamed live on the Toro Sports Network.
