Freeman Chosen to 2nd-Team All-CCAA Squad

WALNUT CREEK -- Junior DeShaun Freeman was named a 2nd-team All-CCAA selection today as voted on by league head coaches, marking the lone Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball player to make an All-CCAA team.  This is Freeman's first All-CCAA selection.

The Los Angeles native made an immediate impact during his first year in Carson, starting 16 of 21 games played en route to averaging 10.7 points and 4.0 rebounds, connectng on 46.1% of his shots from the floor, the best amongst regulars, and 71.4% from the foul line.

Heading into tonight's 1st-round CCAA Championship Tournament match-up tonight at Chico State, Freeman currently sits 16th in the CCAA in free throw percentage, 20th in field goal percentage, and 25th in points scored.

Freeman has posted 10 games in double-figure scoring, including a season-high 22 points vs Chico State on January 19 and a 20-point effort againts cross-town rival Cal State L.A. on November 15.  On the boards, he has collected at least 5 rebounds in 9 games, including a season-high 9 vs SW Minnesota State in first game of the year.

Individually, Cal Poly Pomona's Mitchel Anderson was named the league MVP, with Cal State Monterey Bay's Alex Fertig earning Freshman of the Year honors and Cal State San Bernardino's Brian Goins being tabbed the Newcomer of the Year.

Cal Poly Pomona's Greg Kamansky earned Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time in his career as the top-seeded and No. 5 ranked Broncos earned their best regular season league record in school history, finishing 20-2.

The Toros, who earned the No. 6 seed at the end of the regular season, will face No. 3 seed Chico State tonight in Chico in the first round of the CCAA tournament, with the winner to advance to the CCAA semifinal on Friday, March 8.
