ARCATA -- Leading the nation with 60 home runs and a No. 14 NFCA ranking entering this week's series against Cal State Dominguez Hills, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks belted four more en route to 6-3 and 2-1 wins to sweep this afternoon's CCAA twinbill.  Junior Brittany Brenner went yard herself in the opener with Kaci McGinnis going 3-for-3 in the nightcap as CSUDH dropped its third- and fourth-consecutive games.

With the losses, the Toros fall to 18-14, 10-12 CCAA, while the Jacks improve to 26-9, 18-4 CCAA.

After the 'Jacks got on the board first with a run in the 4th on a lead-off home run by Tonya Walker in the opener, the Toros answered with two in the 5th as an RBI double by Adriana Sanchez on a planned intentional walk, and RBI single by Jessica Hall.

HSU, however, answered back in the 5th, as Chrissy Stalf connected for her 14th home run of the year with two on to regain the lead for the hosts before Brenner launched her solo shot to left in the 6th to draw the Toros close at 4-3.

The 'Jacks, however, would not be denied as another big fly, this time a 2-run job by Dani Randall that knocked starter Lauren Harper from the game, accounted for the game's final runs in the 6-3 decision.

Harper fell to 7-9 on the year, with six different Toros each collecting a hit in the loss.

The nightcap looked to be a pitcher's duel between Toro Stephanie Jimenez and Jack Lizzie Perez, as neither offense generated anything through the first three innings of play.

That all changed in the bottom of the 4th when Courtney Hiatt opened the scoring with a one-out blast to left field.

A Hall walk to open the 6th started a rally that would tie the game at 1-1 as Christina Chavez did the honors with an opposite field RBI single to plate Brenner, who reached on a fielder's choice.

That momentum was short-lived, however, as HSU answered with three hits in their 6th-inning at-bat, with the third hit in the frame coming on a Dani Randall RBI baseknock to give the Jacks the lead for good.

That proved enough for Perez as she retired the side in order in the 7th to preserve the win and give the hosts a sweep.

The two teams return to action tomorrow to complete the four-game set, with first pitch of game one set for a 1 pm start.
