Lipperd Leads No. 15 Seawolves to Sweep Over No. 21 Toros

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ROHNERT PARK -- Senior All-American Samantha Lipperd picked up a pair of wins as the 15th-ranked Seawolves swept a Saturday afternoon double-header from 21st-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills in 1-0 and 3-2 wins to take three of four in the regular season series.

Junior Veronica Vazquez knocked a hit in each contest and drove in a run in the nightcap in the losses.

With the losses, CSUDH falls to 18-12, 10-10 CCAA, while SSU improves to 21-8, 14-6.

The opener was a classic pitcher's duel between Lipperd and Toro starter Lauren Harper, with the duo allowing a combined 5 hits over the first 5 and a half innings of play.

In the bottom of the 6th, however, SSU broke through with what would prove to be the game's lone run as a single to Harper scored pinch-runner Ally Bryant from third.

Lipperd fanned just 4 Toros against 3 walks, but trumped Harper's 3K, 3BB effort in the win as a trio of Toros each collected a hit in the loss.

SSU jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the nightcap, using an Ali Palermo 2RBI triple and Holli Brown RBI single for their runs.

That's looked to be golden for Lippered, who cruised through the first three innings allowing just one hit.

In the 4th, however, the Toros got to the All-American as Vazquez was plunked with the bases loaded to give CSUDH its first run of the day, after which Kaci McGinnis singled up the middle to drive home the 2nd run of the frame.

Lipperd, however, quelled the threat by fanning Daisy Beltran on three pitches, and inducing Adriana Sanchez, the CCAA leader in home runs, to fly out to dead center on the first pitch she saw.

Christina Chavez notched two of the team's five hits in the loss, with Toro starter Stephanie Jimenez dropping to 11-4 on the year.

CSUDH, having lost three-straight, continue CCAA road action next weekend in Arcata to take on league-leading Humboldt State, winners of 13-straight.
