Offense Erupts as #21 Toros Take 8-1 Nightcap Win to Split Friday Twinbill at #15 SSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ROHNERT PARK -- Junior Adriana Sanchez belted her league leading 13th homerun of the year as part of No. 21 CSUDH's 14-hit attack en route to an 8-1 nightcap win over #15 Sonoma State after a 5-0 setback to open the twinblll.

With the split, CSUDH improves to 18-10, 10-8 CCAA, while SSU now stands at 19-8, 12-6 CCAA.

After dropping the opener, the Toros found their offense by scoring 6 runs in the first three innings, as a Jessica Hall RBI single in the 1st preceded a Kaci McGinnins RBI baseknock and Sanchez 3-run jack in the 2nd, knocking SSU starter Amanda Llrena from the game.

That was plenty for game two starter Stephanie Jimenez, who earned the win after scattering 7 hits and fanning 4 Seawolf batters.

Daisy Beltran added three hits and McGinnis and Hall two each, with CSUDH's patience at the plate paying off to the tune of 3 base on balls.

In the opener, a pitcher's duel between SSU's Samantha Lipperd and CSUDH's Lauren Harper turned offensive for the hosts, with the Seawolves scoring thrice in the 3rd inning, with two unearned after a Toro miscue.

SSU added a pair of insurance runs in the 5th on a Holli Brown 2RBI double to put the game away as Lippered fanned 10 Toros against three walks, limiting CSUDH to just 3 hits in SSU's win.

The two teams face off again tomorrow morning for games three and four, with first pitch set for 11 am at the Seawolf Softball Field.
