No. 5 Toros Go Long in 6-3 and 10-0 (5) Sweep Over CS San Bernardino

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CARSON -- Fifth-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills belted five home runs to take 6-3 and 10-0 (5) decisions over visiting Cal State San Bernardino on a hot and sunny day on Toro Diamond, with Stephanie Hua's 3-run shot in the nightcap as part of a 7-run 3rd to blow the game open.

With the sweep, CSUDH takes the regular season series 3 games to 1, and improves to 14-4, 6-2 CCAA.  CSUSB, meanwhile, falls to 8-14, 5-7 CCAA.

The Toros started strong, putting up three runs as an answer to CSUSB's single run in the 1st as Adriana Sanchez took the second pitch she saw from Kaitlyn Randall, and deposited it deep over the right-center field fence to tie the game at 1-1.

After Brittany Brenner was hit by a 1-2 offering, Christina Chavez gave CSUDH the lead for good with a blast to dead center, the second home run of the Toro 1st inning.

CSUDH added to its lead in the 2nd as Sanchez tripled home Jamie Duran, with Sanchez scoring herself on a Brenner RBI single to left.

CSUSB attempted a comeback with a pair of runs in the 3rd, but the Toros added an insurance run in the 4th as a wild pitch plated Duran for the final run of the game.

Sanchez finished 3-for-4, needing a double to become the first player to hit for the cycle in Toro softball history, with Duran adding a pair of hits in CSUDH's 9-hit attack.

Starter Lauren Harper picked up the win while fanning 8 Coyotes against a single walk, allowing a pair of earned runs.

The nightcap was over in a hurry as Duran began the offensive deluge with a solo shot in the 2nd, a surge that preceded a 7 spot in the 3rd, with Hua's blast and a 2RBI triple from Duran accounting for the big blows.

Brenner added a solo shot to dead center in the 4th for good measure, with another Hua RBI single closing the scoring.

Starter Stephanie Jimenez was the beneficiary of the offensive explosion, picking up her 8th win after fanning 3 Yotes against 1 walk.

Junior Karen Peterson pitched a perfect 5th, setting down CSUSB in order.

The Toros will take to the road next weekend against San Francisco State before hosting UC San Diego the weekend of March 15-16.
