Late Cold Spell Proves Costly in 63-52 Loss to UC San Diego

Box Score

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills stood toe-to-toe against visiting and perennial power UC San Diego for the first 35 minutes of tonight's contest, but the experienced Tritons used a 13-4 run over the game's final minutes to subdue the Toros tonight in Carson.

Monay Lee led all scorers with 25 points with Jamie Robinson (pictured) adding nine boards in the loss.

After a bucket to go up 2-0, the Tritons scored the next 8 before the Toros answered with 7 in a back-and-forth battle early, with the two teams tying at 22-22 heading under the 5:00 mark.  The perennial power Tritons then went on a 7-4 run to close the period en route to taking a slim 29-26 lead entering the break as Lee led all scorers with 13 points in the half.

Three quick UCSD buckets that included a triple pushed the Triton lead to 36-28 to open the second half until Lee exhibited her soft touch as a 12 foot jumper hit the back of the rim and bounced straight up before dropping through the twine to bring the Toros within six.

The game remained tight with UCSD holding a 50-48 lead with under 5:00 left in regulation, until the Tritons scored the next 7 points to seize control of the game in taking a 57-48 lead with just under six minutes left in the game.

That's when the Toros went cold, scoring just four points the rest of the way while the Tritons answered with 13 to put the game away.

Lee finished with 10-of-20 shooting from the floor while Robinson added 11 in the loss.

UCSD was led by three double-figure scorers as Erin Dautremont's 18 topped the Triton offense.

Three-pointers proved difficult tonight as CSUDH misfired on all 6 attempts, while UCSD nailed 4-of-16 in handing the Toros their third loss in their last four games.

CSUDH will look to reverse tonight's trend tomorrow as CS San Bernardino visits Carson on "Think Pink" night, set for a 5:30 pm start in the Torodome.  All those wearing pink will get a free hot dog courtesy of Bart's Cart, with the contest being streamed on the Toro Sports Network.
