Tritons Hand Toros Third-Straight Loss in 69-62 Decision

Box Score

CARSON -- Visiting UC San Diego boasted five players in double figure scoring as the Tritons handed Cal State Dominguez Hills its third-straight loss in a disappointing 69-62 decision tonight in Carson.

With the loss, CSUDH falls to 10-10, 6-7 CCAA, while UCSD improves to 7-9, 6-7 CCAA.

Myron Green scored 13 and Deon Geary (pictured) 11 including a perfect 3-of-3 from long range to lead the Toro charge.

The visitors took an early 11-6 lead over the first five minutes of play, before triples by Myron Green and Alex Straugther regained the lead for the hosts, prompting a run that saw CSUDH take an 18-13 lead after a pair of Ramon Williams made free throws five minutes later.

Four-consecutive UC San Diego free throws cut into the Toro lead, with a Colin Porter bucket bringing the Tritons into a 25-all tie with 4:39 left in the period.  The Toros, however, would get the better of the final exchanges, taking a slim 32-30 lead into the locker room.

A quick Triton triple to kick off the second half led a a deluge of long-range makes by UCSD, with back-to-back triples gave UCSD a 40-34 lead, before a long-range Deon Geary answer brought the Toros to within three.

UCSD, however, continued its aggressive offense, running up a 48-39 lead at the 13:09 mark.

The Triton lead hit double-figures one possession later on a Justin Brue free throw, reaching 11 points on a Drew Dyer triple at the 6:20 mark.

That's when the Toro offense began clicking as a 8-consecutive points by Geary that included two threes brought CSUDH to within 60-57, only to have the visitors answer with a three of their own and make seven-consecutive free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

The Toros shot 44.0% from the field and 71.4% from long range, but the Tritons dominated the boards to the tune of a 39 to 21 advantage.

CSUDH's road to snapping its losing streak won't get any easier tomorrow night as CS San Bernardino visits Carson on "Think Pink" night after the Coyotes squeaked by Cal State L.A. earlier tonight.  The game will be streamed live on the Toro Sports Network
