Freeman's 23 Not Enough as No. 8 Dixie State Stays Unbeaten

Box Score

LAS VEGAS, Nv. -- Senior DeShaun Freeman tallied a game-high 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, but NABC No. 8 Dixie State boasted four players in double-figure scoring and an 11 rebound edge on the boards as the Storm posted a 77-59 win over the Toros to stay undefeated at 8-0 in 2013-14.

The Toros, meanwhile, drop to 4-5 with tonight's loss.

CSUDH came out firing to open the contest, taking an 11-6 lead after Everett Turner drained a triple at the 16:26 mark.

The Storm, however, lived up to its namesake after going on an 18-7 run to take a 24-18 lead seven minutes later, and pushing its lead to 11 at 40-29 with just 86 ticks left in the first half before settling for a 42-33 lead going into intermission.

CSUDH kept its deficit to single digits over the second half's first 14 minutes, but an old-fashioned 3-point paly by Dalton Groskreutz gave DSC a 64-52 lead with 6:04 left in regulation, and spurred a run that saw its lead reach 19 at 75-56 before the eventual 18-point win.

Turner and Givon Crump each finished with 10 points in the loss as CSUDH shot just 35.4% from the field compared to 42.2% for the Storm, with two DSC players pulling down at least 10 rebounds, including a game-high 14 from Zach Robbins.

The Toros will try to salvage one of the two tournament games as they face Academy of Art tomorrow at 1:30 pm, after the Knights suffered an 86-69 loss to Montana State Billings earlier today.
